Year-End Charitable Giving

Graphic that reads

As you consider your charitable giving prior to the end of the year, remember that gifts made now could generate income tax deductions that may help reduce your tax bill for 2025. Here’s how to complete your 2025 gift to The University of Alabama School of Law by year-end.

Gifts by Check

Mailed via USPS

  • Mail via U.S. Postal Service with postmark on or before December 31, 2025.

Mailed via Other Delivery

  • Hand-deliver your check or ship via FedEx, UPS, or other shipper so that it is received at The University of Alabama School of Law’s Office of Advancement Services no later than 12:00 p.m. CST on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
  • Checks delivered by any method other than being mailed via U.S. Postal Service are effective as of date received.

Gifts may be mailed to the following address:

Gifts via IRA Charitable Rollovers

The charitable IRA rollover, also called a qualified charitable distribution (QCD), offers an option to make a qualifying charitable gift that is excluded from taxable income and counted toward required minimum distributions (RMDs). To qualify, gifts must be transferred directly from the IRA provider to The University of Alabama and meet certain other requirements. Secure Act 2.0, signed into law on December 29, 2022, contains provisions and expansions for QCDs. Starting on January 1, 2023, the required minimum distribution age increased to 73. It will increase again on January 1, 2033, to 75. The annual QCD limit is $108,000 in 2025. Section 307 includes the ability for donors to elect to make a QCD of up to $54,000 to fund a CRUT, CRAT or CGA.

We encourage you to check with your financial advisors about the best ways for you to take advantage of this opportunity as you consider gifts to the Law School and other charitable interests that are important to you.
