The Alabama Civil Rights & Civil Liberties Law Review
The Alabama Civil Rights & Civil Liberties Law Review prioritizes high-caliber editors with a specific eye for relevant civil rights and civil liberties implications in the Case Note. All students must complete the Bluebook Exam and the Case Note to apply for the Alabama Civil Rights & Civil Liberties Law Review, regardless of grades. The Bluebook Exam and the Case Note are weighed equally (50% each), and applicants must be in good academic standing. Students finishing in the top 25% will receive an automatic invitation to join ACRCL. All students are welcome and encouraged to apply.
The Alabama Law Review
All students are eligible to compete for membership on ALR by participating in the write on competition. To be considered for membership, students must complete the Bluebook Exam and write a Case Note. ALR uses the Bluebook exam scores, Case Note scores, and first-year grades to determine who will be invited to join ALR. To determine a student’s total score, the Bluebook exam, Case Note, and grades will be weighted 35%, 25%, and 40%, respectively.
Students finishing in the top 5% of the 1L class will be automatically invited to join ALR. These students are said to “grade on” to ALR; however, they are still required to participate in the write on competition. ALR will also reserve eight “write on” spots for the students who have the highest composite Bluebook exam scores and Case Note scores. For these spots, grades will not factor in at all.
The Journal of the Legal Profession
At JOLP, we strongly believe in a culture of growth and collaboration that will aid your professional development as a future attorney. In furtherance of this, JOLP’s application process will be as follows: all students seeking membership in JOLP must complete both the Case Note and Bluebook Exam. JOLP will weigh these two aspects, the Bluebook Exam and Case Note, equally (50% each). We will only consider your grades if they help your overall score. The journal will maintain its grade-on standard at the 25% grade band, but students must fully participate in the write-on process to be eligible to grade-on.
The Law & Psychology Review
All interested students in good academic standing may participate in the write-on competition and submit a Case Note and Bluebook Exam. We are seeking quality writers and editors. No background in psychology is necessary to join. Students in the Top 10% of the class (including transfer students) will automatically be extended an invitation to join the journal; however, the Top 10% is still required to write a Case Note and Bluebook exam. To determine membership, LPR weighs grades at 40%, the Case Note at 40%, and the Bluebook Exam at 20%.
