Professor Fred Vars Publishes Op-Ed in The LA Times

Fredrick Vars, The University of Alabama School of Law

Professor Fred Vars published an op-ed in The LA Times about the lasting effects of mass shootings on bystanders, friends, and family members of victims –– namely, mental health crises and suicide attempts –– and how Voluntary Do-Not-Sell lists can mitigate the potentially deadly consequences of those events.

The governor of Colorado recently signed a bill implementing Voluntary Do-Not-Sell lists, joining Delaware, Utah, Virginia, and Washington in passing Donna’s Law. Colorado is raising funds to create an electronic registration for the list –– making it more accessible for people to voluntarily add and remove themselves from the list.
