Registration Reminders

OfCourse Schedule

The OfCourse schedule can be viewed in a variety of formats depending on what information you may be looking for. Courses may contain “tags” or “footnotes” to provide additional information on classification, exam status, and grading mode.

When viewing the complete schedule of classes, you can use the dropdown menu at the top of the screen to filter course offerings by the tag(s). Selecting a tag from this dropdown menu will display only the courses with the selected tag (e.g. seminar, experiential, floating exam, public interest, etc.)

Selective Enrollment Courses

As a reminder, some courses have selective enrollment and are only open to students who are approved for those courses. You will not be able to enroll yourself in these courses, which include clinics, externships, journals, and competition teams, without prior approval from the Registrar’s Office. If you have been approved for these courses, you should contact me for additional information about how to add them to your Fall schedule

Course Numbers

Some courses have the same course number. If you plan to register for more than one course that has the same course number, you will need to contact the Registrar’s Office at registrar@law.ua.edu in order to receive an override. If you do not receive an override, you will not be able to register for courses with the same course number.

Limitations on Credits

Students may not use more than 25 hours of credit towards graduation from the following activities:

  • Independent Study
  • Externships
  • Journal Credit
  • Moot Court/ Trial Advocacy Competition Credit
  • Classes taking in another Department

In addition, students may receive no more than 15 hours of credit towards graduation from externships and no more than 3 hours of credit from Independent Study.

Register for All Courses

You must register for all Clinics, Externships, Independent Study, Journals, and Moot Court or Trial Advocacy Teams in order to receive credit for the spring semester. Credit for all activities other than journals must be applied to the semester in which they are earned; only journal hours can be “banked.”  Please contact the Registrar’s Office at registrar@law.ua.edu if you are interested in applying for any of the above activities.

Waitlists & Max Hours

If a course you want to enroll in fills up before you’re able to register for it, you can add yourself to the waitlist by entering the CRN through the ADD or DROP A COURSE function in myBama. Schedule Builder WILL NOT automatically put you on a waitlist if a course is full.

You will not be added to a course off the waitlist, even if a spot opens up in that course, if you are registered for another course that meets at the same time or if adding the course to your schedule would mean that you are registered for more than 16 hours.

If a seat becomes available in a course, students will be added in the order they appear on the waitlist. This will be the case even after the University cancels its waitlists.

If a course is full, you will be given the option of placing yourself on the waitlist.  Students are taken off the waitlist and enrolled in the course on a first-come, first-served basis.  If you remove your name from the waitlist and add yourself again later, you will lose your earlier place in line and reduce your chances of getting into the course.

You will not be able to add yourself to the waitlist if:

  • You are registered for more than 16 hours
  • You are enrolled in a course that meets at the same day and time

Additional information about waitlists can be found here: https://registrar.ua.edu/academics-policies/waitlist-convention-policy-for-students/
