The Honorable Gray Borden

Adjunct Professor

Judge Borden

Judge Borden was appointed as a Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Alabama in 2019 after holding the same position in the Middle District of Alabama since 2015. Immediately before taking the bench, Judge Borden served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Middle District, where he prosecuted white-collar crimes and organizational-level drug trafficking offenses. Prior to his transition to government service, Judge Borden was in private practice at a litigation boutique in Birmingham, primarily handling commercial litigation and products liability disputes. Judge Borden’s most recent appointment brings him full circle since he began his legal career in the Northern District as a law clerk to Senior U.S. District Judge William M. Acker, Jr.

Judge Borden is a magna cum laude graduate of The University of Alabama School of Law. He was the editor-in-chief of the Alabama Law Review and has returned to campus every year since 2018 to teach advanced-level courses as an Adjunct Professor of Law. Before law school, Judge Borden graduated from Washington and Lee University with a B.S. in business administration.
