Ben Grimes

Assistant Professor of Legal Writing

William B. “Ben” Grimes joined the Alabama Law faculty in 2026 as an Assistant Professor of Legal Writing. Before joining the faculty, Professor Grimes practiced commercial and appellate litigation at a national law firm in Birmingham, focusing on business, antitrust, and accreditation disputes. Before entering private practice, Professor Grimes clerked for Chief Judge L. Scott Coogler of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. 

Professor Grimes graduated summa cum laude and Order of the Coif from the University of Alabama School of Law, where he was the Acquisitions Editor of the Alabama Law Review, a member of the Moot Court Board, a recipient of the M. Leigh Harrison Award, and a Hugo L. Black Scholar. He holds an undergraduate degree in Biology (summa cum laude) from the University of Alabama. He is Of Counsel to Maynard Nexsen PC and is a member of the Alabama State Bar.
