John H. Cox

John Cox has provided advocacy, communications, and legal counsel to food industry associations since 2000. John is a lawyer, a communicator, and an association executive, bringing passion and experience to all three roles. He manages key functional areas at Verto Solutions and holds leadership positions with client trade associations.  John is also a partner with Verto Legal Solutions, a law firm specializing in association governance and regulatory compliance.

“Associations are how businesses leverage their energy and influence,” said Cox. “Working together under the right leaders, associations can accomplish so much more than individual member companies. Educational programming, scientific and technical research, and government relations are all more successful when companies work together.”

Mr. Cox is a Founder and Managing Director at Verto Solutions, an association management and scientific services company based in Washington, D.C. John is also a partner with Verto’s sister company, Verto Legal Solutions.  John has extensive experience providing interpretations and compliance assistance to the food and food ingredient industries.  His experience also includes the management of food and nutrition advocacy projects.   Before founding Verto Solutions, John held various positions of increasing responsibility with The Roberts Group, the association management and scientific services company that became Verto Solutions.

Mr. Cox worked previously on Capitol Hill for members in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.  Before his tour on Capitol Hill, John held positions at Booz Allen & Hamilton, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the Occupational Safety & Health Review Commission, and the Environmental Protection Agency. John has a B.A. in English from Spring Hill College and a Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law. He is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia and Georgia.

John is an advisor to Camp Possibilities, a summer camp for children with Type 1 Diabetes, and he is a member of the Spring Hill College National Alumni Board and the University of Alabama School of Law Federal Externship Advisory Committee.  He also coaches his son’s soccer team for the McLean Youth Soccer League.

John is married to Francessa Wakem Cox and they live in McLean, Virginia.
