Information for Guests

Spring 2026 Commencement is at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Coleman Coliseum.

Guests do not need tickets, and there is no limit on how many each graduate may invite. The ceremony usually lasts about 1.5 hours. Afterward, graduates and guests are invited to a reception in the Law School backyard.


Before you arrive

The Coliseum clear bag policy will be in effect, and everyone will go through metal detectors at the entrance. Outside food and drinks are not allowed. A small number of concession counters will have pre-packaged snacks and drinks available.

Seating is open, and there should be plenty of it, including seats on the Coliseum floor. Guests do not need to arrive earlier than 1pm.

Getting there and finding a seat

The Coliseum opens for guests at 1:00 pm. Guests should use the main North or East entrances. Please do not enter through the student athlete entrance, which is reserved for graduates. Once inside, guests may sit in any open seat, including seats on the Coliseum floor.

During the Ceremony

The ceremony begins at 2:00 pm. Graduates will process into the Coliseum, cross the stage, and take part in the hooding ceremony. The program usually lasts about 1.5 hours.

After the ceremony

A reception in the Law School backyard will begin right after the ceremony. Graduates and guests are welcome to attend.


Accessibility and Livestream

Accessible seating

Accessible seating is available in the corners of the arena on the main concourse level and on the arena floor. There are both wheelchair spaces with one companion seat and seating that can be reached without using stairs.

Accessible parking

Accessible parking is on the east side of Coleman Coliseum. A state-issued accessible parking placard or license plate is required. Guests should enter from Second Avenue via Bryant Drive only.

Livestream

Guests who cannot attend in person can watch the ceremony https://law.ua.edu/commencement. The livestream will be available shortly before the ceremony begins.
