Bradley Makes Leadership Gift to Commemorate the First Black Graduates of Alabama Law

July 25, 2024

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, a national law firm founded in Alabama, has pledged $150,000 to support construction of the Path Makers Legacy Plaza at The University of Alabama School of Law. Plans for the plaza were first introduced in 2023 as a part of a 50th anniversary commemoration celebrating the first Black graduates at Alabama Law. The plaza will be an ADA-accessible, outdoor space where students can gather; faculty can hold classes; and the Law School can host events for alumni, visiting scholars, and friends in the community.

“We are incredibly grateful for Bradley’s leadership in this important project, which aims to recognize the path making legacy of the first Black graduates of our Law School and to visibly commemorate their courage and achievement for future generations,” said Bill Brewbaker, dean of Alabama Law. “Bradley’s pledge brings us one step closer to creating a permanent space that reminds us of how far we’ve come and of our commitment to create new opportunities for future leaders in our great state and nation.”

“Bradley is honored to contribute to the Path Maker’s Legacy Plaza at The University of Alabama School of Law,” said Jonathan Skeeters, chairman of the board and managing partner at Bradley. “Founded in Alabama in 1870, our firm has a deep connection to the state and its institutions. A significant number of our attorneys are proud graduates of the law school, and we value our long-standing relationship with the University. This initiative is especially meaningful as it commemorates the first Black graduates of the law school, an important milestone in the history of legal education in Alabama. At Bradley, maintaining a working environment that is rewarding, respectful, collegial, diverse, and inclusive is one of our core values. Lending our support to this project reflects Bradley’s commitment to our core values in the practice of law, and to The University of Alabama School of Law. We hope this partnership will honor the legacy of past trailblazers and inspire future generations.”
