Alabama Law Dedicates the Alex W. Newton Fountain & Courtyard

Last month, the University of Alabama School of Law dedicated the Alex W. Newton Fountain & Courtyard—honoring the late Alex Worthy Newton (’57). Mr. Newton, who received the Sam W. Pipes Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Law School in 1982, was a trial lawyer with Hare, Wynn, Newell & Newton, LLP for more than 60 years. In 2007, he was named Lawyer of the Year by the Birmingham Bar Association. The fountain was designed by Caleb O’Connor.

Named “The Splash” the fountain represents the ripple effect a single act can have on others and on a community. In terms of impact, Mr. Newton’s example and his legacy extend beyond the limits of his own life—making a difference not only for those he interacted with as a student, lawyer, father, spouse, and grandfather, but on the many generations of law students who have and will come after him at the Law School. His “splash” created a ripple effect that will influence others to succeed and do good as they each make their own mark on the Law School, the legal profession, and the communities in which they live.
