Anita Kay Head

Associate Professor of Legal Writing

Anita Kay Head joined the law school faculty in 2012. She teaches legal writing and moot court to first-year students and coaches the school’s ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition teams. She also serves as the Assistant Dean for Students, overseeing the law school’s academic support program and honor council.

Professor Head is active in the Legal Writing Institute and frequently presents at its conferences. She has also spoken in the Supreme Court of Alabama’s Appellate Advocacy CLE program. She is an officer in the Women’s Section of the Alabama State Bar and was inducted into Class Ten of the State Bar’s Leadership Forum.

Before joining the faculty, Professor Head received a B.A. in Music from the University of Mississippi. She then graduated magna cum laude from The University of Alabama School of Law. During law school, she was a lead editor for The Journal of the Legal Profession and represented the school on the National Moot Court Team. She was selected for membership in the Order of the Coif. After graduation, Professor Head clerked for the Honorable Harold See on the Supreme Court of Alabama and then practiced with the law firm of Johnston, Barton, Proctor & Rose LLP in Birmingham for five years.
