Last month, the Alabama Law Criminal Defense Clinic, led by Professor Amy Kimpel and students Hannah King and Bachittar Singh, partnered with Outside the Walls to host an Expungement Clinic at Shelton State Community College. There they held the first of a two-part session to help individuals navigate the process of cleaning up their criminal record. The Clinic provided free legal services to over 40 members of the community.

Outside the Walls, is a coalition made up of 14 local churches dedicated to helping individuals with reentry after incarceration. Retired Alabama Law professor Pam Bucy Pierson runs Outside the Walls along with formerly incarcerated community organizer, Trinese McDowell.

Alabama Law students walked participants through the process of conducting initial screenings for eligibility, assisting with motions to waive or reduce outstanding fees and helping with applications to ALEA to review their criminal records. Professor Yuri Linetsky also provided free fingerprinting and notary services were provided by the Law School Clinic program assistant, Crystal Lucio.
