Professor Yonathan Arbel Comments on AI Use in Court

Yonathan Arbel

Professor Yonathan Arbel, Director of the AI Legal Studies Initiative at Alabama Law, was interviewed for a FOX 10 News Mobile article about a defense attorney who cited cases that had been hallucinated by AI in court. The defendant in the case requested new representation, telling the judge that he “no longer has confidence in his attorney.”

Arbel emphasized the importance of responsible AI usage and proper education of the tool: “The problem is that just like any other tool, it has limits, and if you don’t know what you’re doing, you’re gonna run into mistakes, and you’re gonna cause harm.”
